A RAI delegation had a meeting with Mr Rajeev Thakur, Additional Secretary Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of
Commerce and Industry to discuss the challenges footwear brands and retailers will face once the BIS QCO Standards are introduced. The discussion also highlighted the impact the Standards will create on investments from global brands/supply chain integrators in India. Representatives from Clarks, Puma, Skechers, Birkenstock, Chogori Retail, Decathlon and H&M were part of the delegationThe delegation requested Mr. Thakur to align BIS standards on footwear in line with global standards, as global standards are already above the requisite benchmark. Mr. Thakur was very supportive and understood the concerns that the industry is facing.RAI, along with FDDI, CIFI and CLRI, shall study the BIS standards which are already in place for other segments and create a detailed paper that will be submitted to BIS and DPIIT
