FSSAI Requires Food Safety Training for Retailers; Offline Sessions Resume

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a new directive making Food Safety Training & Certification (FoSTaC) compulsory for all food retailers. The recently released notification clarifies that every food business operator possessing a Central or State License must ensure at least one trained and certified Food Safety Supervisor for every set of 25 food handlers, or part thereof, across all premises.

FoSTaC serves as a holistic training program catering to food businesses spanning the entire value chain. Its chief aim is to ensure that food retailers are wholly compliant with the essential food safety practices. Participants who successfully complete the training program will be awarded a certificate by FSSAI, endorsing their knowledge and competence in food safety.

Highlighting the program's adaptability, FSSAI recently resumed offline FoSTaC training sessions following the pandemic hiatus. The category 'Retail and Distribution' witnessed five sessions rolled out pan India, drawing participation from around 127 individuals. This marks a robust return to traditional training methods and underscores the importance of food safety in a post-pandemic world.
