Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO of RAI, aptly described the significance of the event, stating, "In India, the retail sector finds itself witnessing the entry of fresh brands and formats, while established ones undergo reinvention." Dr. Hitesh Bhatt, Director-Marketing & Communication, added that technology had been a pivotal game-changer, enabling intriguing elements that redefine customer experiences.
A Stepping Stone: MoU between RAI and FaMeTN
One of the summit's most momentous announcements was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between RAI and Facilitating MSMEs Tamil Nadu (FaMeTN). This strategic alliance aims to develop Retail Policy in Tamil Nadu, with RAI facilitating key discussions between FaMeTN and member retail MSMEs.
Grace Lalrindiki Pachuau, IAS, Additional Commissioner, ICDIC, and Executive Director, FaMeTN, highlighted that this partnership would build capacity within the retail sector, especially among MSMEs, which form the backbone of the Tamil Nadu economy. The collaborative agreement paves the way for a symbiotic relationship, propelling the industry forward. With MSMEs constituting a staggering 90% of retailers, their role in driving industry progress cannot be overstated.
India Retail Excellence Awards - Recognizing The Best
To honour those who have significantly contributed to the industry's vigor and verve, the India Retail Excellence Awards 2023 (IREA) took the spotlight as the summit's grand finale. With categories ranging from Apparel & Lifestyle, Food & General Retail, to Speciality Retail, IREA recognized a plethora of businesses for their exceptional work.
Award Highlights:
• Apparel & Lifestyle - VNH Naidu Hall and Sundari Silks India stood out in apparel, while Hidesign India Pvt. Ltd. and Chennis - Sivaraj Spinning Mills Pvt Ltd shone in the lifestyle category.
• Consumer Durables & IT - Congruence Holdings Pvt. Ltd. bagged the prize.
• Food & General Retail - Muralis Sweets And Food Products Pvt. Ltd. and Sri Kumaran SuperStore were honored for their large and small formats, respectively.
• Speciality Retail - The Bysaani Company and GBS Systems & Services Pvt. Ltd. took home the trophy.
A jury panel comprising industry experts had the arduous task of evaluating the shortlisted entries, painstakingly vetted by a reputed audit agency.
